Asia Russell coordinates international advocacy for Health GAP, a US-based activist NGO founded in 1999 to close the gap that exists in access to affordable AIDS medicines between developing and developed countries. Health GAP also campaigns for the resources necessary to sustain AIDS treatment access for all. Health GAP campaigns give particular focus to the role of US policies in obstructing sustainable access to lowest cost AIDS treatment.

Russell has also been an organizer and member of ACT UP Philadelphia since 1995; ACT UP Philadelphia is the largest grassroots AIDS activist organization in the US. Since 1995 Russell has coordinated the efforts of successful ACT UP campaigns on issues ranging from national AIDS drug pricing policies to health care justice for US prisoners and detainees with AIDS or hepatitis C.
