Peter T. DiMauro has been Director of PatentWatch, a project of International Center for Technology Assessment (CTA) in Washington D.C, since April 2001. CTA is a nonprofit bipartisan organization committed to providing the public with assessments and analyses of the impact of the patent system upon society. DiMauro is the author of the forthcoming report Animal Patenting: An International Appraisal, and has co-written testimony for the President's Council on Biotechnology on the topic of "Patenting Humans", presented June 21, 2002. Most recently, Dr. DiMauro gave invited testimony (19 September 2002) before the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Courts, The Internet and Intellectual Property, on the "Plant Breeders Equity Act of 2002". Dr. DiMauro is a Registered Patent Agent and has practiced as a patent searcher and writer of patent applications in several areas of industrial chemical engineering.

Prior to joining CTA, Dr. DiMauro was for ten years a Patent Examiner in the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Technology Center 1700. He specialized in chemical engineering art areas embracive of fullerene nanotechnology, chemical catalysis, air pollution, and inorganic chemistry. Previously DiMauro was a post-doctoral research associate in bio-inorganic chemistry at the University at Albany. He holds a B.S. (magna cum laude) in Chemistry from Iona College, New Rochelle, NY, and both an M.S. and Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Cornell University, Ithaca NY.
