GREGORY BABYAK

Mr. Babyak has served since 2001 as Counsel and Head of Government Affairs for Bloomberg LP. In this capacity Mr. Babyak is in charge of worldwide regulatory, government policy and legislative affairs for a diverse global information services, news, and media company. Among other areas, Mr. Babyak has worked extensively on market structure and intellectual property issues, not only in developing policy, but also in hands-on lobbying and coalition building to advance policy objectives. Mr. Babyak has substantial experience working with relevant Members and staff in the House and Senate, Administration, and regulatory agencies as well as working on pending market structure issues in the European Union. Mr. Babyak has worked extensively with the Securities and Exchange Commission on behalf of both Bloomberg LP as a vendor and Bloomberg Tradebook, an electronic agency broker serving institutions and other broker-dealers.

Prior to joining Bloomberg LP, Mr. Babyak served as a name partner in the law firm of Royer & Babyak (1990-2001) and as an associate in the law firm of Royer, Shacknai & Mehle (1986-1989). Royer & Babyak provided counsel to domestic and foreign corporations, not-for-profit organizations, trade associations, and individuals on the executive, legislative and regulatory functions of the federal government. The firm specialized in representing financial services and health care providers. In his last year with the firm, the Legal Times named Royer & Babyak as one of the five best financial services lobbying shops in Washington.

Before entering the private practice of law, Mr. Babyak served as Administrative Assistant and Chief of Staff (1980-1985) and Legislative Assistant (1977-1980) to Congressman James H. Scheuer (D-N.Y.). Congressman Scheuer was Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Energy and Commerce of the U.S. House of Representatives, serving on the subcommittee with jurisdiction over the securities markets and chairing that subcommittee from 1978 thru 1980. During his tenure on Capitol Hill, Mr. Babyak worked extensively on capital markets and health care issues. Along with policy and political responsibilities, as Administrative Assistant Mr. Babyak was also responsible for managing a fifteen person Washington staff. Mr. Babyak received a Bachelor of Science degree from Duke University (summa cum laude) where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and a Juris Doctor degree from the Georgetown University Law Center. He is a member of the Bar of the District of Columbia.
