Jesse M. Feder

Jesse M. Feder is Special Legal Advisor to the Register. From 2001 through 2002 he was Acting Associate Register for Policy and International Affairs in the United States Copyright Office. He joined the Copyright Office in 1996 as a Policy Planning Advisor.

Since joining the Office he has participated in the negotiation and drafting of numerous elements of copyright legislation, including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998. Through most of his tenure at the Office he has had general responsibility for bilateral copyright matters with countries in the Asia/Pacific region. He has drafted and negotiated intellectual property provisions of a number of bilateral and regional trade agreements, and headed the Office of Policy and International Affairs for two years.

Prior to joining the Copyright Office he was an associate with the New York law firm, Schwab Goldberg Price & Dannay, from 1991 to 1996, and with the New York office of Shearman & Sterling from 1987 to 1991.

He received his B.A. from Yale in 1984, and his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1987. He is a member of the New York bar.
